Answer: Don’t put a grape vine in the ground. Duh…. Dad Joke. Sorry. Here’s some things to avoid that I commonly see:
Growing way too many grapes to start. There is not wrong with not knowing how to plant a vine. We are all learning. There is something wrong however with planting 30 acres of grapes your first go at it. I would strongly recommend with starting out with just a few. It is much better to grow a few vines well than thousands terribly. You can’t make wine out of bad grapes.
Growing too many different varieties. Generally the growers in the area know what grows well and what doesn’t. Too many times, I see a first time growers planting many different varieties of grapes to determine what grows well in your area.
